It’s that time of year again. A time where you get to take a whole day to unconditionally love the woman who brought you into this world- your mother.

From day one, she’s been with you. Literally. You put her through nine whole months of absolute hell, wreaked total havoc on her body, spent all of her money on things like Pokémon cards and comic books, whined day in and day out about stupid things, probably peed the bed more than once, and definitely (accidentally) ruined something important of hers at one point- and yet, she still loves you. So now it’s time for you to show your mama what you’re made of and spoil her rotten for all those years of support, faith, and unrelenting patience.

It’s 2018 and people have gone above and beyond when gift giving. If you’re looking to be creative you’ve got to get your head in the game.

One of my all-time favorite gifts for a mother who loves her kids is when you and your siblings, friends, family pet- all get together and recreate some of her beloved family photos. I mean honestly, I have never seen my mother’s smile so big as when me and my siblings gave her a recreation of one of our childhood photos. There were tears. And the pros were that it was relatively cheap to get everyone together to take a trip down memory lane, and an even longer trip down a Good Will aisle to recreate the outfits we donned as children.

Another great idea is to go the way of lotions / shampoos / and all things self-care. If your mother is anything like mine, she puts herself last. She loves to get gifts for everyone else, but tends to forget that she deserves something special too. If you’ve got the funds, putting together a gift box filled with things like bath bombs, skin creams, face masks and lotions is something that any mom is bound to love. Let your mama know she’s beautiful and that she deserves a long bubble bath and some me-time. As an added bonus, maybe take your dad out of the house for the day, or agree to watch the pets. Sometimes a day of self-care goes farther than you think it will.

Now if you’re anything like me, you’re a last minute kind of planner. Don’t get me wrong, I love my mother to pieces, but with modern day work schedules (both mine and hers) sometimes plans just have to be a little last minute. But have no fear, I’m here to help you come up with some last minute places you can visit this mother’s day to surprise your mom. Because a day out on the town, spending some quality time with your momma, is the perfect gift you can give her.

The Gospel Truth

Okay, so religious or not- if you’ve never been to a Gospel Brunch, you’re missing out. 30 minutes from The Place Saddle Creek, you can celebrate your mother at The House of Blues Dallas. As they say, “get ready to wave those napkins,” because it’s about to go down. Get ready to enjoy some amazing brunch cuisine and listen to gospel. It’s the best way to treat mom (and yourself) this Mother’s Day.

Art You Glad You Heard About This?

Your mom’s love is more beautiful than any painting in the gallery. You can use that line on her, thank me later. You can also take her to Irving Arts Center. A quick 35-minute drive from living at The Place at Harvestree, you and your mom to their Masterpieces With Mom event. The event is all ages and even lets you in for a viewing of the gallery after.

Make Her Laugh!

What’s better than a comedy show? Not many things, especially when you want a chill Sunday with mom. Backdoor Comedy Club is hosting a Mother’s Day Show (And Celebration) at 5 PM on Mother’s Day. With a ton of great names, and the promise of laughs- what could be better? Oh, I know, free chocolate. That’s right, your mom will get a free box of chocolates and a free ticket to a future show- so y’know if she enjoys it, y’all can make it a regular thing. Hosted at the Doubletree, it’s only 45 minutes from The Place at Harvestree and 30 minutes from The Place at Saddle Creek. Time to get tickets for the funnies.

Make sure you treat your mom right this Mother’s Day and don’t forget to sign up for our newsletter for more Dallas fun!
