It’s heating up, Plano. Here’s where you can go to cool down. From rooftop ice bars and community skate rinks to poolside concerts and night time festivals, these are some of Plano’s coolest hideouts and summer events.
1. See Josh Wright Sing at the Texas Pool
When: July 28, 7pm
Where: 901 Springbrook Dr
Celeste, Texas native and American Idol contestant Josh Wright will be headlining at the Texas Pool for an evening of family-fun with swimming, snacks and barbecue supplied by 5-Ohh BBQ. Tickets to see the Christian singer-songwriter in concert are $10. Admission is free for Texas Pool members.
2. Skate like a Dallas Star
When: Multiple dates
Where: 4020 W Plano Pkwy
Cool off and hit the ice at the Dr. Pepper Starcenter community ice rink this summer. Throughout the summer months the rink hosts public themed skates and events suited for hockey fans and skaters of all ages. In August, skaters who come to the rink dressed in victory green or Dallas Stars garb receive $2.50 off admission. Adult admission is $9, youth admission is $8, kids under the age of three are free. Skate rental is $4.
3. Check out the Hub and Ashbury Celebration
When: July 29, 3-10pm
Where: 1212 14th St
Sure to draw a crowd, this summertime festival will feature live music, food trucks, henna tattoo artists and local beer tastings.The Hub and Ashbury Celebration, happening from 3pm to 10pm on Saturday, July 29, is free for all to attend.
4.Experience the Plano Symphony at The Shops at Willow Bend
When: July 30, 2pm
Where: 6121 West Park Blvd
Spend an afternoon listening to the sounds of the Plano Symphony at The Shops at Willow Bend. The musicians will be setting up in Grand Court and will be playing a variety of familiar tunes such as hits from The Little Mermaid, Frozen, Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty and other classics. At this free family-friendly event, children are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite character or princess. Kids will also have the opportunity to learn about musical instruments via the Plano Symphony Musical Instrument Petting Zoo.
5. Walkabout at the Downtown Plano Art and Wine Walk
When: August 10, 5pm
Where: 1013 E 15th St
Presented by Plano Magazine and Historic Downtown Plano, The Downtown Plano Art and Wine Walk celebrates all things wine and Plano culture. Winding through numerous shops and galleries throughout Downtown Plano, the map for this event will give attendees a close up look at the Plano community, wine glass in hand. Tickets can be purchased for $12 online or for $18 on the day of the event and include a collectible wine glass, wine tasting guide and passport for the event. VIP season passes are available.
6. Enjoy chilled drinks at 32 Degrees Rooftop Ice Bar
When: Sunday-Wednesday from 11am to 12am, Thursday-Saturday from 11am to 2am
Where: 1006 E 15th St
Perched on the third floor of Plano’s Urban Crust, 32 Degrees Rooftop Ice Bar, which features a long strip of ice running along the bar top, is named for the constant 32-degree temperature that each and every draft beer is poured at. Additional spirits, including the bar’s signature draft Moscow Mule, are all poured at -5 degrees, which is cold enough to keep you cool though a hot summer evening.
